For health care services, the population of low and middle income countries heavily depend on the public health system and the availability of health services and commodities builds the people's confidence in their leaders. It is the national distribution system (the distribution pyramid) and the various logistic management layers that will ensure the product availability. For effective logistic decision-making, access to accurate and timely logistic management information, is crucial. Unfortunately, in resource-limited settings such tools are often not available or ineffective, unnecessarily hampering the functioning of logistic coordination units, reducing the effectiveness of national distribution systems and ultimately resulting unavailability and/or expiry of medicines and/or medical supplies at health facilities.
